Just got a MAC Mini, and I am a yahoo Messenger user. Never had problems with Buggy software before, up to now. I downloaded this, thinking it'll work flawlessly. After installing, and it's initial execution, - it locked up the system.

Yahoo Download For Mac
I've yet to find someone to test the audio functionality. Other things seem to work about the same as in the past. This is basically the fifth publicly available build in 2.5 years and with 2 publicly available builds per year, this software should be ready about 2011.
At least, it hasn't crashed as much as the last build.

When I read about the newer build 18274, I went to the beta msg home page to install it. When I slid the icon to my applications icon, then told it to install, it said I had a newer version. The version I show from the get info (on right click) says I have 17006. I told it not to continue. I notice on the new one I tried to install it says Mac OS Extended (Journaled) but wont show the build number since it isnt completely installed I assume. Any information anyone can share?
I cannot view webcams, but I dont own one either. I have been reading many places that webcams dont work on this mac beta version, yet I see the screenshot posted. I dont know if I need to install a camera in order to view one? My friends try to cam me and I get a black box with a spinning icon like it is trying to load. After 10 - 15 mins I just X it out. I thought I use to be able to view cams back in April.. but maybe not. I have an old pc set up by this iMac to view cams.
I enjoy seeing the pics on this new beta version, but I think there is a lot of wasted space with the user bubbles and there is still no archiving that I can find. I have to save everything in a Text Edit program and keep in a folder.. very annoying and very inconvienent when trying to see a history or a particular user. Also, the screennames are written in white in the bubbles, so when saving.. I have to select all and select default to show the user names in black (if we use the same fonts and colors).. then I lose their color of font. So many frustrations with this !!
I also dont like the fact that this newer version wont allow you to see a persons profile at random.. only from a person in the msg list. I just go to my profile and then to the box for view by ID to search.
I think Yahoo needs to step it up a notch.. I see complaints Everywhere from Mac Users !!

I just wanted to say that I downloaded this back when it came out and it says version 3.0 Beta 1 Build 17006.
I just downloaded it again and it now has build 18274.
So, they might be quietly updating the beta 1 without telling anyone. I have no idea what the improvments were.
Anyway, I gave it a 4 out of 5 because the only problem I have is that it frequently connects and disconnets from the yahoo server. And all my other internet apps work just fine.

Two years down the line from the last release, and this is what we get? What has really changed? It still does not offer voice capabilities, which defies understanding. it had cam support before, and it has now. Are we supposed to be gushing because it has a prettier interface, and hardly any extra functions than before?
And even the interface, with its large spacings between rows and bubbles during chats taking up so much space, is a step backwards as far as usability is concerned.
For any messenger to be worth its salt today, it should offer voice capabilities. I wonder why customers are gipped on the osX platform every time over this. Yahoo has a long way to go on the mac, a new version release should offer something new at least. In all fairness, the only feature added as far as I can see is the ability to add and communicate with users of msn messengers (and its far from perfect right now), however, we could already do that with AdiumX. If there's no voice function, why would we need yahoo's useless junk lying in the dock?

could someone please help me have some fun. I'm a MAC and downloaded the 3.0 beta 1 version of yahoo! messenger with voice. I don't get to use all the fun stuff like my PC friends do. On my mac message window, I don't even have fun function icons like Audibles and such. I only have one token icon, which is the emoicon. and I don't have a phone icon to invite or receive invitation to voice message. I only get to see my buddies on the webcam and type in the IM. :( some tips? email : [email protected] thanks a bunch.

Very solid release. Looks neat and does what it says. The only downside, although maybe out of range for the development of the program, is the lack of cross-platform access to for example MSN (cause, I mean, who uses Yahoo apart from us few Mac users, and that only because of the Webcam support..!)

Finally yahoo gives us a decent version of messenger. Nicely done and fast
